Bringing history and business to downtown Wichita Falls, TX has been a remarkable journey for my husband and I. In 2016, I stumbled upon this amazing little gem. I was ready for the next step in my life of entrepreneurship where I could bring all my designs and creative abilities to people in our town.
The history of 711 Indiana Avenue is quite remarkable. In 1889 Edgar B. Gorsline and his wife came to Wichita Falls from Indiana. For two years Gorsline operated a grocery and bakery. He then opened the Fashion Livery Stable in 1892. Horses and rigs were rented and the stable also served as horse boarding facility. Carriages were sent to meet all trains and served as transportation for funerals. Before the automobile era, the Fashion Livery Stable furnished vital services for residents and visitors to Wichita Falls. Gorsline sold the stable in 1907 and the structure was raised in 1908. In 2016 the building became a historical landmark.
The store front was already beautifully restored and I knew right away this building was going to be the new home for Southernly Inspired (SI). We revitalized the interior of this old building and restored some of the original beauty with a few modern details. Come check out this little extraordinary site for history and shopping.
